Research Events
© Montréal Danse
Research Events are laboratories allowing choreographers and dancers to explore new creative ground without pressure to produce a new work. For each event, a guest choreographer spends three weeks in the studio with two dancers. Each Research Event ends with a public sharing of the material developed and is followed by a discussion with the public.
By freeing artistic exploration from pressures and deadlines, Research Events make way for discovery and a quality creative process. We insist that the laboratories be dedicated to research and we’ve noticed that such freedom yields rich and fertile results.
Research Events are a significant tool that, by letting ideas evolve organically, serve as incubators for new works. They can also allow us to test the possibilities of an eventual collaboration with a choreographer prior to committing to a production. Through these events, we support choreographic innovation and development.
