Choreographic Research Workshops
Montréal Danse is always reflecting about ways to assist choreographers in understanding and improving their choreographic process, developing their choreographic skills, and gaining insight into the singularity of their choreographic voice. This reflection led to Montréal Danse’s first Choreographic Research Workshop in 2004 for choreographers in search of a safe and stimulating environment in which to question their art making. The idea proved successful and the workshop has been offered every year since.
Four choreographers are selected to participate in an intensive week of research, discussion and artistic process development. Working with them as facilitators are two creative process experts who bring their expertise to the event.
During workshops, each choreographer is paired with two dancers. They are matched to ensure an excellent dynamic for the stated choreographic intentions.
Multiple meetings are organized between the choreographers and the facilitators during the workshop as well as daily conferences for all the participants. These bilingual conferences are open to the public.
Many projects have been born in these workshops including several that became creations produced by Montréal Danse.
