RADIOMATON
Marie Béland and Simon Laroche
With RADIOMATON fabricate your own truth for free.
Appropriate words and gestures, embody radio news and contribute to the propagation of information without verification.
A total sensory and immersive experience, RADIOMATON questions the construction of truth, media contamination, fake news and the role of the body in the perception of information.
Installed in a cubicle resembling a photo booth and equipped with headphones broadcasting live a local radio station, each RADIOMATON user must repeat aloud the words they hear, while imitating the gestures that are displayed on the screen in front of them. This recorded performance, mingling movements and words that do not match together, is remixed in a kaleidoscope where all meanings intersect.
CO-PRODUCTION
In 2008, Marie Béland took part in Montréal Danse’s Choreographic Research Workshop. This encounter between Marie Béland and Kathy Casey initiated an artistic complicity, a common language and a work complementarity, which led to a series of successful collaborations and the embodiment of the conceptual structures underlying their creations together. This synergy has resulted in three co-productions with Montréal Danse: BETWEEN (2015), BESIDE (2019) and RADIOMATON (2022). For this last production, Simon Laroche, interactive media artist designer, signs his first collaboration with Marie Béland. The audience is invited to question the systems that govern our society and to observe our ways of being together. The artistic partnership between the choreographer and Montréal Danse is still active today.
