Gabriela Jovian-Mazon is a professional performer in different styles ranging from musical theatre to contemporary dance and is based in Montreal. She specializes in whacking, a club culture dance style from the 70’s. In 2020, Gabriela was selected as a choreographer for 100Lux and choreographed for an outdoor digital art installation for the city of Montreal, MOON. Her first short dance film Playtime was presented at Bouge d’Ici 2021. She also co-choreographed Seul.e.s ensembles (Asymmetry, Fringe Festival 2021) and Comptines (Acollectif, CALQ 2021). In her work, she explores mental health, inequalities, and the identity of self through characters, humour, freestyle, storytelling and whacking.
