Gabriela Jovian-Mazon, aka Ellégance, is a movement artist. Her training includes Mexican folk dance, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and experience as a puppeteer. Her passion has brought her to the professional stage on the U.S. tour of the musical ‘Scooby-Doo and The Lost City of Gold’, on the Quebec tour of Michel Courtemanche’s new repertory show, and with contemporary companies such as Asymmetry Creations and Ample Man Danse. She has recently presented works at the Ville de Montréal, the Fringe Festival, Vue sur La Relève, the Art-Fulness Whacking Festival and the Festival de Danse Contemporaine de Sherbrooke. Her movement has many influences; at present, she draws her inspiration mainly from punking dance, authentic jazz dance, mime and puppetry. Punking has led her to take part in battles and training sessions in Los Angeles, Italy, Greece and Mexico. In her eccentric work, she creates characters by defining their gestures, ways of moving and intentions that create texture. She believes that by sharing true stories, our lived experiences and our culture, we can create a more resilient community.
