Instant Community
Peter Quanz with Sylvain Lafortune, Bernard Martin, Brice Noeser, Peter Trosztmer, Kathy Casey
n/a
Instant Community looks at fiction, truth and the lure of fabrication. Using the simple magic of our cellphones and tablets, this immersive work blurs the real and the artificial as nature and bodies are recreated, multiplied, and superimposed on the walls and among the public. A carte blanche project proposed by Montréal Danse to choreographer Peter Quanz, Instant Community deals with the collective experience of the Internet and the way our world is constantly captured, fragmented and modified. The images created live by the dancers Sylvain Lafortune, Bernard Martin, Brice Noeser and Peter Trosztmer result in a unique experience. Mastering the mysteries of a low-tech mystification, the performers blur our perception, leading the spectator to the construction of a hybrid reality.
production
Peter Quanz and Kathy Casey come from nearly opposite poles of the dance world – Peter from ballet and Kathy in contemporary dance – but they are linked by an inquisitiveness about how the other thinks. Their work together was a gamble that something new and fresh could come out of this curiosity, which led them both into completely new territory.
