Mathi LP is a performing artist based in Tiohtià;ke, Mooniyang, Montreal. A graduate of Concordia University’s contemporary dance program, Mathi LP now works at the intersections of somatic practices, performance, writing, contemporary dance creation, facilitation, and teaching. They work to develop various modes of reflection through the performing arts, where the experiences of bodies in motion become a driving force for creation and social reflection. In 2022, they launched Espaces Aperçus in collaboration with the organization RURART in Estrie: a space for collective research through the sharing of somatic, dance, and/or performance practices. Mathi LP collaborates on the Montreal arts scene with artists Kerwin Barrington, Lucy Fandel, Fjord Gagnebin, Hanna Sybille Müller, Andrew Turner, Rafa van Zuiden, and the element of water. They also collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers and artists such as Soledad Coyoli, Kelly Keenan, Camille Renarhd, and Corinne Skaff on the creation of alternative spaces where body-state work can become a form of activism. In 2025, Mathi submitted their research-creation thesis at UQAM, where they brought the practices of Continuum and Drag into dialogue to unfold the discursive movements of fluid bodies from a perspective of micro-activism. Through these various fields of engagement, Mathi LP explores the discourses on bodies that these practices carry and their implications within our networks of relationships.
