From May 11 to 17, 2025, a week will be dedicated to those who have been affected by crime. It is a time to listen to their voices, recognize their courage, and better understand what these individuals are going through. This year, with the theme “The Power of Collaboration,” it is also an opportunity to highlight the resources that exist to support them on their path to healing. With this in mind, DCV is partnering with the Restorative Justice Service Center for the third year to offer a space for creation and movement, where the body and drawing become means of expression, healing, and reconstruction.
“Standing” movement-drawing workshop: a space for reclaiming your body
On May 13 and 15, as part of Week of Victims and Survivors of Crime, we will co-create a rare space: the Debout workshop, the result of a committed collaboration between the Restorative Justice Service Center, the Elizabeth Fry Society of Quebec and the CALACS Trêve pour Elles. This event embodies our vision: movement as an act of resistance against violence.
Like our workshops, this space has been designed to be safe and welcoming. It invites anyone who resonates with our approach, or who is engaged in a healing process related to violence, to explore their feelings, movements, and creativity based on their own experiences.
The theme “Stand Up,” inspired by the words of Geneviève Rioux, spokesperson for the CSJR, prompts deep reflection: how to get back on your feet, regain power, reclaim your body, your space, your history.
ON THE PROGRAM:
1. Exploration in motion with Rachel Harris (DCV facilitator for 10 years) through progressive exercises to reactivate areas of confidence and well-being;
2. Guided drawing with Valérie Descroisselles-Savoie (art therapist at the Elizabeth Fry Society) to transform the energy of movement into marks on paper.
The workshop is full, but we wanted to share with you what we are putting in place, because creating spaces for expression, care, and transformation is at the heart of Danse contre la violence’s commitment.
