Montréal Danse’s Danse Against Violence is a unique and important cause in Quebec, dedicated to the well being of women and their children who are victims of different types of violence. Through movement workshops, Montréal Danse helps them re-appropriate their bodies and regain their self-esteem while promoting family ties.
Since 2010, nearly 500 workshops have been held, with 2390 women and children participating.
Danse Against Violence has been presented in France for the first time, with Montréal Danse and MARIBÉ – SORS DE CE CORPS as the guests of honour of the event Danse contre la violence hors-les-murs Lyon-Montréal. Organized by the TESTUDINES company, the project brought together multiple partners to initiate a real reflection on the theme of violence. The event aims to combat domestic violence through scientific, professional, community, cultural and multidisciplinary meetings and shows.
The Montréal Danse team, together with MARIBÉ – SORS DE CE CORPS, presented Marie Béland’s dance work BESIDE.
A workshop conducted by Rachel Harris will also took place, consisting in a theoretical and practical overview of the fundamental principles underlying the Danse Against Violence movement workshops in Quebec.
Kathy Casey, dramaturge and artistic director of Montréal Danse and regular collaborator Bernard Martin, gave master classes on dramaturgy and contemporary ballet to the artists participating in this first edition of Danse contre la violence hors les murs Lyon-Montréal.
From November 19 to 22 2019, Lyon, France.
