B\u00e9land\u2019s focus in <strong><em>BETWEEN<\/em><\/strong> is on speaking as body movement. Embedded in an incessant spoken discourse full of gestural automatisms, thus creating an \u201cinvisible choreography\u201d which questions the identity of a dance that is free of gestural dancing, but filled with danced gestures.<\/p><p>Part of a trilogy with <em><strong>BEHIND: une danse dont vous \u00eates le h\u00e9ros<\/strong> <\/em>(2010) and <strong><em>BESIDE<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>BETWEEN<\/em><\/strong> is the result of an artistic and financial collaboration between marib\u00e9 &#8211; sors de ce corps and Montr\u00e9al Danse, and their respective artistic directors, choreographer Marie B\u00e9land and dramaturg Kathy Casey.<\/p><p>Marie B\u00e9land\u2019s work has been uncovering what performances typically hide: their mechanisms, their ramifications and their clich\u00e9s. She is exploring the link between art and life and how the choreographic aspect of life allows art and dance to become entwined. What do the dancing body and the everyday body have in common, where do they overlap? Each piece takes an extensive look at our ways of being together: dance, through its mechanisms and trends, mirrors who we are and our individual and collective
